Theres something about getting into nature that makes you want to be as kind as you can to it and part of that comes in the form of choosing natural skin care products.  I’ve been on the “Low Tox” journey for a while now and am doing my best to remove as many chemicals from our daily lives.  Switching products to a more natural and chemical free choice takes time and doesn’t seem like a big deal, but it’s a small thing I can do to know I’m doing the best for my family and our planet.

Getting into the bathroom and switching out old chemical heavy products was a tough one for me, I love a bit of glam and I love a good product and had a bathroom cabinet full to show my commitment!

My beauty routine as a mum has tightened up to get washed and ready in a rush, rather than a time of indulgence each morning.  These days, my me time comes in the form of a long bath with Magnesium Flakes and essential oils or shower and some product love after my little man is asleep for the night – heaven!

Deciding to make the switch and lose the chemical laden products was easy, once I understood why – if you’d like to know more about it Alexx Stuart does a brilliant 30 day “Low Tox Living” program that tackles just one area of life at a time to remove the overwhelm in removing chemicals from your life.

Choosing what to switch too is another story – especially since so many of them you can only order online.  It’s like blind faith shopping with a lot of asking for recommendations on where to start, so you don’t end up with a cupboard full of products you don’t enjoy using.  I had a girlfriend ask me which products I’m using these days and I thought I’d share them here with you.

My skin care routine is quick and easy.  I use the Acure facewash or Lavera Facewash in the shower, Vanessa Megan rosewater spray as a toner, a botox like serum – Zkin Line Smoothing Serum, 100% Pure coffee eye cream and Weleda Wild Rose Smoothing day cream.  I don’t always use the serum and eye cream, but I love when I do!

In the shower I am in LOVE with my body wash – I use the Weleda Sea Buckthorn Body Wash – it smells so good!  They also do a gorgeous body oil that is lush to put on when you get out of the shower or bath, I don’t use it all the time, mostly I’m in a rush and just happy to have showered!  If I have time and remember, I love doing a dry body brush before jumping in the shower, it’s like a pep me up and always gives me an extra zing of energy as well as sloughing off some of the dry winter skin.  I’m a bit slack with moisturiser in winter, when I do use it I choose either coconut oil, the weleda oil or 100% Pure body moisturiser.

Hair care is a challenge for me and one area I’m still working through.  Sometimes I do OK and sometimes I get fed up and go back to chemical ridden luxury products – I am a massive bumble and bumble thickening shampoo fan and I’ll be honest, it’s hard to give it up so I treat myself every few shampoo rounds, and think it’s OK – I’m still doing 90% better reducing chemicals than I was a year ago.  Most of the time I use either the Lavera Volume Shampoo,Acure volumising shampoo and conditioner or my sons Weleda Calendula wash and shampoo, which is probably my favourite – I love stealing sharing his products – you can read that blog here.

I’ve just bought the Acure Dry shampoo for when we are “out bush” on our travels, I’ve used it once so far and it was pretty good.  Not as easy to use as an aerosol, but that’s one of the trade offs right in living a low tox, cleaner life.  Nourished Life (which is an online store I am a massive fan of because they vet all of their products to ensure they are free of any nasty toxins) did a fabulous write up on the 2016 Natural Shampoo Guide that covers off the best products for each hair type and is worth a read if you are looking to switch your products.

Smelling nice, aside from the must use deodorant (I like Fresca or Miessence) I’m working my way through the Vanessa Megan Perfume pack to try and land a new chemical free favourite – the jury is still out, but I do love having something nice to spritz on for special occasions.

I’ve also switched out my cosmetics, but I’ll save that for another post.

That’s it!  I’m working my way through trying different things, but these are my favourites so far.  Let me know if you have any gorgeous products that you absolutely love using.
