Pregnancy is a beautiful rollercoaster of highs and lows. You’ll be spending the whole time thinking about your baby, but it’s important to think about yourself too! When you’re going through many physical changes, your self-care will need to be your number one concern. Pregnancy can be an emotional time so you’ll need to find ways to relax. Let’s take a look at a few ways that you can ensure that your self-care is top-notch!

Light exercise 

You won’t want to do anything too strenuous while you are pregnant, but it’s important that you still do some gentle exercise to stay healthy. Light exercise will still increase your mood by raising your endorphin levels. Going for a walk, a swim or doing pregnancy yoga are all great ideas. These exercises won’t be too intense for your body. Yoga is also great to feel a sense of calm and allow yourself to unwind properly. 

Spoil yourself 

Being pregnant can be an emotional time whereby your hormones can be all over the place! Try to be mindful of how you are feeling and give yourself lots of pampering to feel great. Take a spa day, get a massage or get your nails done. Ensure that you make time for friends, and buy yourself little gifts. Do anything that you need to make yourself feel amazing! 

Get enough sleep 

You’ll likely find that you have the urge to sleep more than usual when you are pregnant, so don’t resist it! Have your regular 7-8 hours and then a few naps here and there to give you a boost. If you have trouble sleeping, try some herbal teas that can help you relax you before you go to bed. 

Get enough iron 

It’s very important to ensure that you get enough iron during your pregnancy to give you enough energy. Iron can be found in fish and meats and also leafy greens like kale, swiss chard or spinach. You may also know that iron deficiency in pregnancy, needs to be supported by iron supplements. Iron is essential for supporting your body through this time. 

Eat healthy 

When you are pregnant, you’ll likely get some cravings for sugary and fatty foods! While this is perfectly natural, you will want to ensure that you are getting plenty of fruits and vegetables plus any other superfoods that will give your lots of nutrients. Make sure that you drink plenty of water too. 

 Find a community 

Being pregnant can be a little daunting, especially if it’s your first one, it’s worth trying to see if you can find any online communities of women who support each other during the process. Keep your family and friends close and build a support network around yourself. Get any advice that you can to help you feel confident about your journey ahead. 

When you’re caring for two, you’ll want your self-care to be to the highest level. Listen to your body and mind, and do whatever you need to make yourself feel great. The little things like reading your favourite book or eating your favourite meal will do you a world of good!
