Tips to Avoid Sun-Damaged Skin

Everyone would like to have great-looking skin, and for many of us, this involves getting a tan. But before you go out to spend hours in the sun, be warned: too much sun can result in early wrinkling, age spots, and an increased risk of developing skin cancer. There are plenty of ways that you can avoid sun-damaged skin, and we will be discussing a few of the best ones in this blog post.

Know When to Stay Indoors

The times of the day when the sun tends to be at its strongest are between 10 am and 4 pm, so you should stay indoors during these hours if possible. If you are at the beach, you should try to stay in the shade as much as possible. Of course, there may be times when you cannot avoid going outdoors, which leads us onto the next part.

Stay Protected When You Are Outdoors

When you are out in the direct sunlight, you should protect yourself with clothing (look for sun-protective items), a hat, and sunscreen on your exposed skin. You should get into the habit of applying sunscreen on a daily basis, even when the sun is not shining outdoors. UV rays can still penetrate through the clouds, so you can still get sunburnt on cloudy days.

Not all sunscreen is created equally. SPF stands for sun protection factor and gives you a measure of how well the cream in the bottle prevents sunburn. You should apply it all over your body 15-30 minutes before you plan on going outside. Don’t forget that the rays can shine through car windows and other glass. You should be reapplying sunscreen every couple of hours, and sooner if you have been swimming.

First of all, you can apply some aloe vera gel or aftersun which is designed to soothe the skin and prevent the burn from deepening.
